Gary, IN - Fresh off a 1-0 shutout of their own, the Gary SouthShore RailCats couldn't solve Sioux City Explorers starter Patrick Johnson, falling 6-0 Wednesday in front of 1,862 at the U.S. Steel Yard.

The game was a scoreless tie until the hottest hitter in the league, Sioux City's Michael Lang, untied it with a two-out triple in the fifth. Lang tried for the inside-the-park home run on the play but was gunned down at the plate to keep the game at 1-0.

The game got out of hand in the seventh when the X's (33-13) batted around and rattled off five runs on six hits off reliever A.J. Quintero.

The RailCats (21-23) debuted two new pitchers Wednesday in Dan Ludwig and Matt Solter. They combined to give up one run in 5.2 innings, but Solter was tagged with the tough-luck loss. Crown Point native Michael Schroeder worked a 1-2-3 ninth and has yet to allow a run as a RailCat in two appearances out of the pen.

This loss was the third time the 'Cats have been shut out this season, with all of them coming in the past 11 days.

The 'Cats will send Rene Solis (0-4) to the hill Thursday for the series finale to face off with Jonh Stracka (6-1) for the Explorers.
