RailCats Run Road Streak to Five

FT. WORTH, Tex. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats ran their win streak to five games on the road by pushing past the Ft. Worth Cats 7-3 on Tuesday night.

The RailCats, who have never trailed on the first five games of the trip, came through with two outs in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Cristian Guerrero roped a two-strike double into the left-center gap and scored with two outs when Mike Rohde deposited a two-bagger into left. Ft. Worth tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the inning as Butch Ballez plated John Allen with an RBI single.

Guerrero opened a three-run fourth with his second double of the contest as the RailCats opened a 4-1 lead. Toddric Johnson followed with a walk and both scored as Rohde drove his second double of the game deep to center. Mike Valadez dropped down a squeeze bunt to finish the scoring in the frame.

Ft. Worth pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the inning and has another run thrown out at the plate by Guerrero which resulted in the ejection of Ft. Worth Manager Stan Hough arguing the call.

Two more runs crossed in the top of the sixth to further the lead. Kyle Haines drew a one out walk and Rohde followed with his third double of the night. Valadez collected his second RBI with a groundout before Chris Carrara knocked home a run with a bunt single. The final margin was achieved in the ninth on a Brad Boyer single to score Carrara.

Carlos Rivas improved to 4-0 in his five starts since returning from the disabled list by pitching five innings. Brian Grening tossed a pair while Will Krout and Travis Minix closed out the contest. Rohde drove home three runs on three hits while Boyer, Guerrero, and Carrara each posted a pair among the 10 hits in the contest. Mike Massaro extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the third inning.

The series concludes tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Nolan Nicholson (3-7, 7.09) takes to the mound for the RailCats opposite RHP Will Calhoun (2-1, 6.10).

The Gary SouthShore RailCats return home on Friday, and will give fans two chances to catch the best fireworks show in Northwest Indiana this weekend with the addition of a very special Christmas-themed Fireworks Spectacular on Dollar Monday, July 25, exactly five months before the real thing.
