Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, LA -The Shreveport-Bossier Captains, presented by U-Auto Pull-It Auto Parts, and the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana announced their partnership today to "Strike Out Hunger" in Shreveport and the surrounding communities of Northwest Louisiana. There is no off-season for hunger and the Shreveport Bossier Captains know exactly how important it is to build a better community.
The "Strike Out Hunger" campaign will consist of two special events that will be held on Tuesday, July 26 and Tuesday, August 23. The Captains are reaching out to their fan base and residents of Northwest Louisiana to help people who are in need by making donations to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. Fans who donate a minimum of 6 cans of food and/or non-perishable food items will receive a free reserved ticket to that night's game. Fans who donate 10 or more cans of food and/or non-perishable food items will receive a free reserved ticket to that night's game and a free reserved ticket to a future 2011 regular season home game.
"During the summer is when our food is at its lowest levels. The food drive will provide hundreds of children, women and men nutritious non-perishable foods. We are grateful to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains and fans for their support", Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana executive director Martha Marak said.
The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is the largest distributor of donated food for a 7 parish area including Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Claiborne, Desoto, Red River, and Webster parishes. The Food Bank sorts, stores and distributes food to over 100 partner agencies which then give it to people in need.
"The Captains have the unique ability to form partnerships with organizations, such as the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, so they can help the less fortunate in Shreveport and Northwest Louisiana", Captains general manager Chet Carey said. "Our goal is to help create awareness in the community that hunger is not relative to the time of year or a holiday season but more importantly, that there is no off-season for hunger".
After this home stand the Captains travel to Fort Worth to begin a short three-game series against the Cats before returning home on Tuesday, July 26 for a six-game home stand against Grand Prairie and Amarillo. Season tickets and single-game tickets are available for purchase in-person or over the phone by visiting the Captains Executive Offices at 2901 Pershing Boulevard at Fair Grounds Field or by calling (318) 636-5555. VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express accepted.
