Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Joliet, Ill.—Kyle Logan's one out single up the middle brought in Jermaine Allensworth from second base with the winning run as the Joliet JackHammers edged the Gary SouthShore RailCats 2-1 on Wednesday night. The game was delayed at the start by 59 minutes due to rain.

The loss ends the RailCats four game road winning streak and drops their record to 10-7 on the season.

Joliet took advantage of a RailCats mistake to get the scoring started in the second inning. Jim Kavourias singled with two outs. The next batter, John Lackaff, hit a high popup behind the mound. First baseman Jason Colson looked to be set to make the catch but backed away as though he was called off by another infielder and the ball fell untouched. Third baseman Tanner Townsend was charged with an error on the play. The next batter, Jeff Goldbach lined a single to left to bring in Kavourias and make it a 1-0 game.

The RailCats tied the game in the top of the fifth on a lead-off home run by Colson, his third of the year.

Joliet loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Dominic Woody got John Lackaff to ground to Townsend at third, who threw home for the force out. Then Jeff Goldbach flied out to center to end the threat.

The RailCats got a lead-off single from Anthony Iapoce in the top of the ninth and Townsend sacrificed Iapoce to second. Jose Yepez walked with one out, but reliever Matt Petrusek struck out Colson and got Steve Haake to ground to first to end the threat.

Allensworth doubled off the left field fence against Woody with one out in the ninth, setting the stage for Logan's game winning hit. Previously, it had been a night of frustration for Joliet, who stranded 11 runners and had men in scoring position in six different innings but could push across only the single unearned run before the ninth.

The two clubs meet again Thursday at 7:05 PM. Jamie Bennett (2-0, 3.27) will pitch for Gary.

Notes: Yepez extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games, the second longest current streak in the league. Colson extended his hitting streak to eight...The RailCats have provided just three runs of support in the 33 innings that Bruso has been on the mound this season.
