Joliet, ILâKyle Logan hit a single in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Jermaine Allensworth to give Joliet a walk-off win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Allensworth hit a one-out double to set up Logan's game winning hit. Logan's hit was the tenth of the game for the JackHammers, their fifth straight game with at least ten hits.
Another solid job by reliever Matt Petrusek helped Joliet keep the game tied in the top of the ninth inning. Petrusek struck out Jason Colson with two runners on in the ninth inning and then got Steve Haake to ground out to end the threat. Matt picked up the win, his second of the year.
Both starting pitchers were solid Wednesday night. JackHammer starter Luis Villarreal struck out 11 batters in eight inning of work. The RailCat starter, Greg Bruso, went seven innings giving up just one run which was unearned. Both pitchers picked up no-decisions for their efforts.
Joliet struck first in the second inning with an unearned run. Gary extended with the inning by not being able to catch an infield pop up by John Lackaff. That allowed Jeff Goldbach to bat who singled to in Jim Kavourias to give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead.
The only blemish for Villarreal in the game was a home run by Colson that tied the game for Gary in the fifth inning.
Joliet's Jayson Drobiak extended his hitting streak to a team best eight games with a bloop single in the 8th inning. Kyle Logan's single was his seventh straight game with a hit. Meanwhile Gary's Jose Yepez's double in the 7th inning gave him a hit in eleven straight.
The win was the first of the season by Joliet in a game started by Villarreal. The victory also ties up the all time series at twenty-two wins apiece and give Joliet a 3-2 2005 advantage.
