Cracker-Cats defeat RedHawks, 6-4, in 13 innings

FARGO, N.D. – Chris Becker's two-run single in the top of the 13th inning propelled the Edmonton Cracker-Cats to a 6-4 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in 13 innings on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. With the victory, the Cracker-Cats improved to 9-10 overall. Fargo-Moorhead dropped to 13-5 with the loss.

The RedHawks opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Bryon Jeffcoat drilled a solo home run to center field, and Eric Kofler scored on a fielding error by Edmonton pitcher Reggie Rivard. Richard Austin stretched the ‘Hawks lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Edmonton stormed back in the top of the sixth, plating four runs for a 4-3 lead. Stubby Clapp drilled an RBI single, Ricky Magdeleno clubbed an RBI double, and Becker knocked a two-run single, all off RedHawks reliever Brantley Jordan. Two of the runs were charged to Fargo-Moorhead starter Jimmy Escalante.

Edmonton reliever Jim Harrison (3-1) picked up the victory. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Mel Spivey (0-1) pitched a stellar 4.2 innings of relief but took the loss. He allowed one run on one hit. He struck out two batters and walked one intentionally.

The RedHawks will embark on an 11-game road trip beginning Thursday night, with Joe Sergent (3-0) getting the start. Fargo-Moorhead will face the Sioux Falls Canaries for four game, followed by three games against the St. Paul Saints and four games against the Sioux City Explorers.
