Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Green Bay, WI - June 25, 2012 - The Rafters went into Green Bay for the second time this season, and once again, they left on the wrong end. The Rafters scored first but Green Bay scored the final five and Wisconsin Rapids lost their third straight, 5-1.
The Rafters scored in the top of the second. Brandon Downes (FR, Univ. of Virginia) reached on a drop third strike and later scored on a Nick Ammirati (JR, Mississippi State Univ.) single.
The Bullfrogs scored in the bottom of the second, though, to tie it. They would score the next four as well.
Cam Seidl (JR, UW-Stevens Point) went 4.1 innings, allowing only two earned runs. He surrended five hits but walked only one Bullfrog and struck out four. The outing tied his first start for his shortest start of the summer but it was one of his sharpest. The lone walk was his lowest total this season, and he commanded all of his pitches well.
"He commanded the strike zone. There is some stuff we still need to work on, but mechanically and control-wise he was a lot better tonight," said Chad Lee, the Rafters pitching coach. Green Bay scored a third run, the second of the inning, after Seidl left in the fifth, as they stole home in a first and third situation.
Green Bay scored another in the sixth and eighth and have now outscored Wisconsin Rapids 13-2 after the fourth inning in the two games at Joannes Stadium this season.
The Rafters were just 1-9 with four strikeouts on the night with runners in scoring position. They struck out 12 times in total, a season-high.
Seidl (0-2) took the loss, while Ben Graff (3-1) picked up another win behind his one-run ball in five innings.
Rafters (13-12) play home Tuesday and Wednesday against Green Bay (16-10). Both of those games at Witter Field will be at 7:05.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League. The Rafters will play a 70 game schedule with 35 home games in 2012.
