Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers continue their winning ways on Monday, June 25th with an 11-1 rout of the Alexandria Beetles to complete the two-game sweep and take the first five games of the season series.

Honkers pitching was brilliant as they surrendered just two Beetles hits and struck out a total of fourteen batters.

Alexandria pitching really struggled in this one allowing nine Rochester hits and walking a combined seven Honkers. The Beetles defense wasn't much help either, registering eight errors.

The Beetles offense couldn't get anything going against Rochester starter Jared Miller (Vanderbilt), who tossed 6.0 innings of one-hit baseball and allowed just one earned run to earn his first victory of the season (1-0). Miller tallied nine strikeouts and walked four.

Reliever Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) picked up the save (1) with the final 3.0 innings of work. Millbrath struck out five batters and allowed just one hit.

Third baseman Brandon Defazio blasted his second home run in a Honkers uniform in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on board. Defazio now has two home runs and eight RBIs in four games against the Alexandria Beetles in 2012. Defazio finished the night 1 for 4.

Center fielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) went 2 for 5 at the plate and designated hitter Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in the win.

The Honkers (11-15) and Beetles (9-17) will square off again tomorrow at Mayo Field for the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM. The pitching matchup will consist of righty Chris Noble (Pikeville) for the Honkers against righty Scott Sanderson (St. Cloud State) for the Beetles. Noble is 1-3 in four starts and Sanderson is 0-1 in ten outings in 2012.
