Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Madison, WI - The Mallards made it interesting late, but the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters matched a season high in hits en route to a 10-8 win at Warner Park in Madison on Friday.
Augey Bill (SO, Univ. of Arizona) was nasty Friday, twirling six innings of two-run ball. The Rafters jumped out to a quick lead in the second. Brandon Hohl (SO, Univ. of Illinois) smashed his sixth homer, a two-run blast, to make it 2-0 Rafters in the second. Hohl was one of three Rafters to collect three hits along with Austin Neary (FR, Western Carolina Univ.) and Pat Kelly (FR, Univ. of Nebraska).
After knocking Matt LaMothe out of the game after five innings, the Rafters went to work against the Mallards' bullpen. Wisconsin Rapids scored four in the 7th, including a three-run opposite field homer from Neary, his fifth. The Rafters took a 10-2 lead going to the bottom of the eighth with a four-run seventh and two-run eighth.
The Mallards, though, scored six runs in the eighth and ninth innings. In the ninth, after one out, Madison got back-to-back RBIs to make it 10-8, but Seth Fuller (FR, Black Hawk College) picked up his sixth save getting back-to-back outs off of Jeff Zimmerman and John Welborn, as the tying runs to end it.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid. The Rafters are now 4-1 against Madison and are 2-0 at Warner Park this year. On a night where the Rafters had three all-star selections, they all shined. Alex Bacon (SO, Univ. of North Florida) collected two hits to extend his hitting streak to five, Pat Kelly went 3-for-5, scored a run, knocked in one, and stole his seventh base of the year.
Augey Bill scattered five hits in his six strong innings, got his second win in his third start (2-0). LaMothe took the loss (3-3).
The Rafters (4-5, 20-23 overall) take on Madison (6-2, 22-21 overall) once again Saturday at Warner Park at 6:35 pm.
