Honkers Dig out Win against Rox

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers even the series 1-1 with the St. Cloud Rox on Saturday night with an exciting seven inning 3-2 win in front of 1,959 screaming Mayo Field fans.

Down 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, right fielder Ben Lahn (Lamar CC) came up and belted an opposite field two-run homer to make it a 3-2 Honkers lead. Lahn finished the night 1 for 3.

Despite a rough start, starting pitcher Nick Dolsky (DMACC) was magnificent through 6.0 innings of work. Dolsky allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out seven Rox hitters.

The tall Honkers righty worked his way out of a sixth inning bases loaded jam with just one out to maintain the one-run Rochester lead. With the victory, Dolsky is now 1-1 in three appearances.

Honkers Reliever Elliot Engle (Doane) picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.

Honkers first baseman Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) went 1 for 2 with a run scored on the Lahn homerun. Left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois), designated hitter Trevor Podratz (Hawaii), third baseman Brandon Defazio (San Mateo), and center fielder Jordan Parr (Illinois) each went 1 for 3 in the Honkers win.

Tomorrow, July 15th, the Honkers (4-6, 19-26) welcome the Alexandria Beetles (4-5, 17-27) to Rochester, MN with the first game of a two-game that starts at 1:05 PM. Righty Kevin Johnson (Illinois) starts on the mound for the Honkers against Alexandria lefty Brandon Johnson (Florida State). Kevin Johnson is 0-2 with a 7.62 ERA in five starts and Brandon Johnson is 0-0 in two outings and an ERA of 3.86.

Kevin Johnson tossed 1.0 inning of scoreless baseball in Alexandria on June 20th in a 6-3 Rochester victory.
