Alexandria Beetles News Release

Duluth, MN - After the Alexandria Beetles (17-27, 4-5) scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead on the Duluth Huskies (25-19, 6-4), the bats, which had put up 33 runs and 41 hits in the previous two games ran out of magic and the Huskies scored nine unanswered to win going away on Friday by an 11-4 final.

Steve Weber took the loss for the Beetles, charged for seven runs in four innings while Max MacNabb earned the victory for the Huskies becoming the first Duluth starter to pitch out of the third in the series.

A Michael Suiter two-run homer, his first of two on the night, put Duluth up 2-0 in the second before the Beetles scored their four runs with two outs in the top of the next. With two down and runners in scoring position, red-hot Ben Moore singled through the right side for his 50th and 51st RBIs of the season, Jimmy Pickens doubled in Moore, and Will Fulmer hit an infield single to score Pickens and give the Beetles the 4-2 advantage.

The lead was short lived as in the bottom of the fourth, Duluth teed off against Weber with the help of a controversial call at first. A Connor Szerba triple with one out in the inning tied the game at four, and with two outs, James Ramsay hit a chopper on the infield that Tanner Vavra fielded and gunned to Weber covering. But Ramsay was called safe on a bang-bang play as the go-ahead run scored and the next batter Luke Campbell hit a two-run homerun as Duluth went ahead 7-4.

The Huskies scored three more in the fifth off Caleb DeLee including the second two-run shot of the night for Suiter, and tacked on an unearned run in the seventh for the 11-4 final.

The teams play the rubber game of their five game set on Saturday with a 7:05 CDT first pitch from Duluth.
