Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (15-27, 3-4) will try to end this eight game home stand tonight with a win as they battle the Madison Mallards (24-18, 6-3). The Rafters have gone 3-3 on this home stand so far and tonight will be looking to make the home stand a winning one against the Mallards before they head to Madison for a three game set to finish the season series with them.
Tonight's starter for the Rafters will be Jake Cage (Azusa Pacific, 0-0). Cage is making his first start for the Rafters and will be making only his second appearance of the season. In his only outing of the year Cage went two innings against Thunder Bay and allowed two runs on three hits while recording a strikeout. Cage hopes to be much sharper tonight as he faces a Mallards squad who are swinging hot bats as they scored eight runs last night on 14 hits.
The Rafters will be facing right handed pitcher Rob McDonnell (Illinois, 4-1) in tonight's ballgame. McDonnell has good numbers this season as he has an ERA of 3.06 in 29.1 innings of work and has struck out 26 batters. The biggest knock against McDonnell this season is that he has not gone past the sixth inning in any of his six starts and the Rafters will look to keep that trend going.
Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) looks to once again lead the Rafters attack tonight after going four for five in last night's ballgame while driving in a run. With that performance Domingues retakes the league lead in average and on base percentage with respective totals of .396 and .507 for the sure to be all-star. Keelin Rasch (Louisiana Monroe) also had a good night last as he hit his second home run in as many days to give him three on the season the go along with his team leading 24 runs batted in. Rasch is currently riding a six game hitting streak during which he is batting .433 with two home runs and eight runs driven in and he will look to extend that streak tonight.
Tonight is the last home game until July 19th and the game starts at 7:05pm meaning the gates open at 6:05pm. In addition to it being Thirsty Thursday here at Witter Field, there will also be an Incourage Community Foundation Rafters Pen Giveaway.
