Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Wausau, Wis. - In the first game of the series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks, the Kingfish fall 7-4. Kenosha showed a quality performance, outhitting the Woodchucks 16 to 11 but could not produce the runs and take the loss.
Similar to the past few games, the Kingfish got their offense going early in the first, with a two-out single from Pat Porter (2-5, 2R, RBI), who then reached second on an error. The Woodchucks struggled with errors all night with five total. One wild pitch later, and Alex Dunlap (3-5, 2RBI) had a runner at third with two outs. He did not disappoint, delivering a single to left field for the first run of the game.
Unfortunately, the Kingfish couldn't hold the lead as starter Justin Peters faced NWL home run leader Paul DeJong, who took a 0-2 count over the center field wall to score two runs.
King Elvis' crew was not discouraged and tied the contest up in the third thanks to a ground out by Porter to score Zack Kolakowski. The Woodchucks responded in the bottom of the third with two home runs, to take back the lead 4-2.
The Kingfish did try and come back three separate times, but three runs is as close as they would get, closing the gap once more in the eighth as Chris Godinez (3-4, R) scored on another Dunlap RBI to make it 7-4. On the night, the Kingfish would end with 13 stranded and fall in the first of two games.
The Kingfish finish the series against the Woodchucks tomorrow and then travel to La Crosse and Battle Creek for two more series. King Elvis' crew will return to Simmons Field on Thursday, July 17th for Snap-on Sockets "What If" Night.
