
Baroniel, Bullfrogs Shut out Bombers on Thursday

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs welcomed the Battle Creek Bombers to Joannes Stadium for game three of their eight-game home stand on Thursday night. Green Bay's starter, Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) threw seven scoreless innings and the Bullfrogs scored in seven straight innings to defeat the Bombers on Thursday by a score of 9-0.
Baroniel made his team-high eighth start of the season on Thursday and earned his fourth straight win after throwing seven innings, giving up no runs on five hits to Battle Creek. He also struck out a season-high eight batters. Baroniel has now given up zero earned runs in three of his eight starts this season and has thrown at least seven innings in four of his starts.
The Bullfrogs gave Baroniel plenty of run support on Thursday, scoring nine runs on eleven hits. Green Bay scored runs in every inning but the first inning, and scored two runs in both the sixth and eighth innings.
Seven Bullfrogs recorded hits on Thursday, led by Franco Guardascione (Palm Beach State College), Ryan Howell (Chabot), Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne), and Dean Long (Emporia State), who all had two hits apiece for Green Bay. Both Brian Celsi (California) and Howell scored two runs on Thursday. Five Bullfrogs also recorded one RBI on the night as well.
Dan Becks (St. Edwards) and Justin Mullins (UC-Davis) completed the shut out for Green Bay by throwing scoreless eighth and ninth innings respectively. Neither player gave up a hit to the Bombers in either inning.
Dakota Mekkes (Michigan State) started on the mound for Battle Creek on Thursday. Mekkes threw four innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits while taking the loss for the Bombers.
Battle Creek and Green Bay will play the final game of their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
