SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- Taylor Raddysh recorded a hat trick as the Syracuse Crunch edged the Utica Comets, 5-3, tonight at the Adirondack Bank Center.
The win advances the Crunch to 17-9-2-0 on the season and 6-4-1-0 in the 14-game season series with the Comets.
Crunch goaltender Spencer Martin earned the win with 19 saves. Joel Hofer turned aside 30-of-34 between the pipes for the Comets. Syracuse was 1-for-2 on the power play and went a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Crunch opened scoring on the back-and-forth affair 7:57 into the game. Raddysh was down low to redirect Boris Katchouk's right circle shot. Seven minutes later, Sven Bärtschi evened the score when he went five-hole on a breakaway.
Syracuse regained their lead with a power-play goal at the 17:28 mark of the first period. Katchouk swept a shot on net that was stopped, but Otto Somppi was in front of the net to chip in the rebound. Utica responded yet again with 38 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Sam Anas stole the puck in the bottom of the right circle and beat Martin with a quick shot.
The Comets went on top 6:53 into the second stanza. Nikita Alexandrov fired a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle that was blocked, but the rebound came right back to him and he scored on the second chance. The game was tied for a third time 28 seconds later when Henry Bowlby threw the puck towards the crease for Ryan Lohin to get a stick on and redirect in.
Raddysh made it a 4-3 Crunch lead with his second goal of the game just 38 seconds into the third period. His shot from along the goal line ricocheted off the post, off the back of Hofer and in.
Raddysh completed the hat trick with an empty-netter in the final seconds and secured the Crunch win.
The Crunch and Comets are back in action in Utica on Friday.
