LOWELL, Mass. - Despite allowing the Hartford Wolf Pack to erase a 3-0 deficit, the Lowell Devils scored two goals 47 seconds apart in third period to skate away with a 5-3 victory on Sunday at the Tsongas Arena. Twelve different Devils players recorded a point to help them stay undefeated in four games against the Wolf Pack this season.
Clinging to a 3-2 lead midway through the third, Lowell looked to add some insurance as they took to the power play. Instead it was Patrick Rissmiller leading a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush and finding Greg Moore with a perfect centering pass at 10:19.
The Devils were able to answer back and retake their one-goal edge 1:27 later on the same man-advantage when Vladimir Zharkov tipped Jon DiSalvatore's point shot over Maxime Daigneault's shoulder.
Patrick Davis pushed Lowell's cushion back to two 47 seconds after Zharkov's goal, picking up a loose rebound in the slot and flipping a backhander into the net to make the score 5-3.
Lowell owned the first period and was able to skate into the first intermission up, 3-0. Matt Corrente scored the first of the Devils' two power play goals in the game with a slapshot from the blueline that snuck inside the far post at 8:31.
It took only 23 seconds for Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond to make the score 2-0 as he muscled in a Rod Pelley centering pass after the Devils captain forced a turnover deep in the Wolf Pack zone.
Barry Tallackson notched Lowell's third of the period with a long wrist shot past Matt Zaba at 14:31 that would see Daigneault come in to the game in relief at the start of the second.
The Wolf Pack would begin to claw its way back into the contest late in the second period when Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau pounded home a loose puck in front of Jeff Frazee at 16:15.
A turnaround shot by Brodie Dupont off a face-off win in the Devils zone clipped off a stick and rainbowed across the goal line with 1:29 left until the intermission.
Frazee turned aside 22-of-25 shots for his 19th win of the season. Lowell went 2-for-4 on the man-advantage and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Lowell Devils next play at home on Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. against the Philadelphia Phantoms. Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com. For more information about individual tickets and group packages, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
