SENATORS GAME RECAPS: February 7, 2009 - L-3-2 (ot) - The Binghamton Senators battled back from an early two-goal deficit to force overtime before falling by a 3-2 final to the Rochester Americans on Saturday afternoon at the Blue Cross Arena.
Rochester took advantage of several early power-play chances, scoring first off the stick of Karl Stewart just eight minutes into the opening period. Michal Repik gave the Amerks a two-goal edge in the final minutes of the opening period with a one-timer from the left faceoff circle, beating netminder Jeff Glass on the blocker side. The B-Sens struck back early in the second stanza with a power-play tally of their own. Defenseman Tomas Kudelka passed from the deep left corner to Peter Regin in the mid-slot, where Regin one-timed it under the cross bar for his ninth tally of the season.
Josh Hennessy made it a 2-2 hockey game in the third period when he collected the rebound off a Mattias Karlsson shot from the point and snapped it past netminder Tyler Plant for his 14th marker, tying him with Denis Hamel for the team lead. The game went into the extra session where defenseman Jason Garrison snapped a wrist shot high over the glove hand of Glass to give Rochester their first win over Binghamton this season. The B-Sens collect one point to keep pace in the tight East Division race, just one behind third place Bridgeport.
