Houston Aeros tally four goals in third for 6-3 win over Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - After being tied 2-2 heading into the third period the Houston Aeros took the game out of the Chicago Wolves' reach with four goals and a 6-3 win Sunday night at Allstate Arena. Nolan Schaefer stopped 23 of 26 shots for the win as his counterpart Ondrej Pavelec blocked 20 of 26. Krys Kolanos recorded three assists for the Aeros to lead the club in points for the night. Houston's win moved the clubs into a tie for fourth place in the West Division at 55 points each. The Aeros (23-21-1-8) will play back-to-back games in Iowa Friday and Saturday before heading home to host Chicago next Sunday at 5:05 p.m.

The home team got on the board first with a five-on-three power-play goal by Jeff Hamilton at 6:28 in the opening period with Brandon Rogers and Kurtis Foster sitting in the box for the Aeros. John Lammers tied things up for Houston when he recorded a power-play tally with 2:17 remaining in the first period. Krys Kolanos and Matt Beaudoin earned the assists for a 1-1 tie that carried into the first intermission. Each team recorded a power-play goal in the period as Houston had only two man advantages to Chicago's six. The Wolves out shot Houston 15-8 in the opening frame.
Marco Rosa gave the Aeros a 2-1 lead just over halfway through the game at 11:29 in the second period. Bryan Lundbohm and Robbie Earl set Rosa up for his 10th goal of the season. Spencer Machacek followed up 4:29 later with a power-play goal of his own, tying the game a two apiece. Hamilton earned his second point of the game with an assist on the goal and Brett Skinner recorded his second assist, taking a 2-2 tie into the second intermission.
The third period boosted the Aeros out of Chicago's reach with a total of four goals for the visiting club. Houston opened the final period with four straight goals including a pair from Jesse Schultz at 2:23 and 12:06 in the frame for his second two-goal outing of the season. Between Schultz goals, Corey Locke put in a power-play goal for Houston's second power-play tally of the game. Matt Kassian earned his first point of the season with the Aeros' final goal of the night by stripping a defenseman of the puck and stuffing it into the net with a back hand shot for a 6-2 lead. Kassian's goal was unassisted and came in his 34th game played this season. Chicago's Joey Crabb wouldn't lay down despite the four-goal deficit and netted a four-on-four goal at 14:54 to bring the score to 6-3 which would last for the Aeros' victory.
