Quad Cities Scores a Season-High 12 Runs, Top Kernels 12-2

Davenport, IA - Boosted by a seven-run sixth inning, Quad Cities blew the game open Wednesday night, blasting Cedar Rapids 12-2 in game two of the series at Morden Woodmen Park.

The River Bandits' offense got started right away. In the bottom of the first, Quad Cities loaded the bases with no one out. A Gavin Cross RBI single made it 1-0, re-loading the bases for Carter Jensen, who drove in two with a double to right extending the QC to 3-0 after the first.

Cedar Rapids grabbed a run back in the top of the second when with two outs, Willie Joe Garry Jr. tripled, and Keoni Cavaco was hit by a pitch. Charles Mack then drove home his third run of the season with a broken-bat single to make it 3-1.

Quad Cities got that run right back in the bottom of the third. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, an error brought home Jensen making it 4-1.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth when Quad Cities exploded for seven runs. After a single and a stolen base, Javier Vaz grabbed an RBI single to make it 5-1. Following a walk and a hit by pitch, the River Bandits loaded the bases again, this time for River Town, who blew the game open with a two-run single to put QC ahead 7-1. The next batter, Darryl Collins drove home another run with a single, Jack Alexander brought home two more with a double, then Jack Pineda finished off the scoring in the frame with a two-out RBI single to place the score at 11-1 after six innings.

Town produced another RBI in the seventh on a single to score Quad Cities' twelfth run of the contest to extend its advantage to 12-1.

The Kernels rallied for a run in the top of the ninth on a two-out single by Noah Cardenas but the scoring would end in a 12-2 defeat.

The loss evens the series between the Kernels (14-14) and River Bandits (11-17) at a game of piece entering a doubleheader on Thursday. Pierson Ohl gets the ball for the Kernels in game one, which is set for five, with Mike Paredes starting his first game of the season in the nightcap.
