ECHL Wheeling Nailers

Q & A with Bo Cheesman

September 14, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

Bo Cheesman joined the Nailers for the last eight games of the regular season after finishing his successful college career at Lake Superior State. In his short time here Bo impressed last year's head coach Pat Bingham so much, that he signed him as one of the first players of the summer. Bo is currently skating with his old college team in Lake Superior trying to get ready for the upcoming season, but Wheelingnailers.com had a chance to catch up with and ask him a few questions.

WN: You got a taste of pro hockey at the end of last season after your college career had ended, what did you think of the experience?

Bo: It was a good experience, coming out of school I just jumped right in, it was good to see what pro hockey was all about and get some games in.

WN: From your collegiate stats it looked like you were a role player and a leader of your team, but when you came to Wheeling you scored four points in just eight games. What type of player do you anticipate being this season?

Bo: I find myself in a role playing situation a lot, but I also like to help out with scoring too. I just go out there and play my game of up and down hockey and take care of the defensive end but also help out with scoring.

WN: How have you been training this summer to prepare for the upcoming season?

Bo: It's been a lot of running and a lot of eating, I wanted to put on some weight this summer but I didn't want to lose any of my speed. I worked with a trainer to put a plan together that is going to maximize both of those for me. The last week or so I have been skating with my old team in Lake Superior trying to get back into skating shape.

WN: Are you excited to attend the Nailers AHL affiliate's training camp in Wilkes-Barre?

Bo: Yeah it's an honor to be invited to the camp, I only have eight games of pro experience but I am ready for the challenge. It's what all players look for, it's the next rung in the ladder and you keep trying to climb to get to that next level.

WN: What are your expectations on how the Nailers will do in the upcoming season?

Bo: Nobody should expect anything less than for us to go all the way, I don't think you should be in the locker room if you don't think we can win it all. Obviously we are going to take it one step at a time, but we should all have high expectations for next year.

WN: You worked closely with young cancer patients while in college, do you expect to continue your community involvement in Wheeling?

Bo: Yes, when I arrive in Wheeling I look forward to visiting with the local schools and hospitals. I am fortunate enough to be in the position where I am, lots of people get cheated with their health and other things. When I get in town I want to sit down and figure out some places that I can help and spend my time while I'm in Wheeling.
