Augusta Lynx News Release

Yet another familiar face returns to tackle the defensive zone chores for the Augusta Lynx this season as Phil Cole has agreed to terms with the club for the 2005-06 Season.

Cole, who just celebrated his 23rd birthday earlier this month, comes back to Augusta where he saw action in 42 games last season, notching a goal and five points with 80 minutes in penalties. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native started the season with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League where he played 18 games without registering a point.

Originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-4, 205 lb. defenseman has split each of the last three seasons between Albany and the ECHL, totaling 166 games. Cole has scored seven goals and 19 points over that span, along with 350 minutes in penalties.

"Phil gives us size and experience back on the blue line," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "He's not afraid to mix it up, and can use his size to his advantage both in front of the net and in the corners."

Defensively the Lynx now have Cole, Marty Lapointe, Ken Scuderi, Shaun Fisher, and Treavor Peterson on board, while forwards Doug Wright, Brian Passmore, Ryan Lang, Jake Riddle, Chris Chaput, Jimmy Callahan, and Rich Hansen complete the current list up front.
