TRENTON, NJ (September 14, 2005) - The Trenton Titans announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to terms with forwards Joe Guenther, Russell Spence and Mark Wires and defenseman Matt Maglione.
Guenther, 24, enters his fourth season of professional hockey. Last season, the 6'0", 215 lb forward skated for 59 games with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees notching 26 goals, 16 assists and 42 penalty minutes. Guenther' s pro career began with a four-game stint with the Toledo Storm before he landed with the now-defunct Baton Rouge Kingfish (ECHL). The Buffalo, NY native recorded 39 points (17g, 22a) and 22 PIM over 51 games with the Kingfish leading to an appearance in the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game.
Spence, 23, split the regular season in 2004-05 with the Kalamazoo Wings and Danbury Thrashers of the United Hockey League totaling 5 goals, 6 assists and 6 penalty minutes before joining the Fort Wayne Komets for 16 games in the Colonial Cup playoffs. A third-year pro, Spence skated with the Pensacola Ice Pilots, Columbus Cottonmouths, Toledo Storm and Greenville Grrrowl during his rookie year in 2003-04. The 6'3", 220 lb native of Portage La Prairie, Mantioba skated for one year at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in ninth round (#280 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Wires, 23, comes to the Titans after spending his rookie season with two teams in Texas, the Texas Wildcatters (ECHL) and the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League. After chipping in 8 points (3g, 5a) and 23 PIM in 37 games with the Wildcatters, the 6'0, 180 lb forward helped the Bucks reach the President Cup Final with 19 points (7g, 12a) in 29 regular season games and 10 points (3g, 7a) over 16 postseason matches. Hailing from North York, Ontario, Wires played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Bowling Green University, tallying 63 points (33g, 30a) and 169 PIM in 150 games.
Maglione, 23, becomes the third former Princeton University player to sign with the Titans for the upcoming season. A 6'1", 205 lb defenseman out of Syracuse, NY, Maglione skated for 23 games in the ECHL last year making appearances with the Pee Dee Pride, Greenville Grrrowl and Wheeling Nailers. About to enter his second pro season, Maglione was an eighth round draft pick (#249 overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Maglione played in 115 games for the Princeton Tigers from 2000-04 compiling 46 points (15g, 31a) and 56 PIM.
