Kinston, NC - For the second consecutive outing, Kinston (4-5) starting pitcher Zach Putnam silenced Winston-Salem in leading the Indians to a 4-2 victory in the series opener on Friday night at Grainger Stadium. Putnam (2-0) tossed six innings and limited the Dash to two runs on four hits with a season-high eight strikeouts to garner the win. Kinston jumped on Dash starting pitcher Levi Maxwell for three runs in the third inning. Alex Castillo lined an RBI single and Cristo Arnal followed with a triple to bring Castillo across the plate. Later in the inning, Lonnie Chisenhall delivered a run-scoring single to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.

The Dash put their first run on the board against Putnam in the fifth inning. Brent Morel and Christian Marrero led off the inning with singles to put runners on the corners. Next, Seth Lomen hit into a double play which allowed Morel to score. Jimmy Gallagher added a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning to trim Winston-Salem's deficit to 3-2. The single also extended Gallagher's hitting streak to a team-high eight games.
