Puckett Blasts Barons Past Suns in Continuation of Suspended Game

Birmingham, AL - It took over 24 hours to complete, but the Birmingham Barons finally prevailed in a 2-0 win over the Jacksonville Suns in a continuation of Wednesday's suspended game in front of 3,617 fans at The Baseball Grounds In Jacksonville.

The Barons and Suns made it through 2.0 innings on Wednesday before heavy rains forced the game to be suspended. The start of the continuation would be delayed again due to wet weatheron Thursdayand after resuming the two teams were only able to make it into the fourth before more weather forced another delay.

The Barons would finally break the scoreless tie on a mammoth two-run home run by Cody Puckett against Grant Dayton(4-4, 2.65), his 12 th long ball of the season.

Chris Beck started the game for the Barons on Wednesday, striking out three over 2.0 scoreless innings. Relievers Dan Remenowsky, David Cales (1-0, 0.51) and Kevin Vance would combine to allow just two hits over 7.0 scoreless frames after the continuation of the game on Thursday while striking out seven to help preserve the 2-0 lead. Cales picked up his first win since joining the Barons, allowing a hit while striking out two over 3.1 IP. Kevin Vance recorded his 7 th save, allowing a hit and striking out four over 2.0 IP.

Puckett and Keenyn Walker each finished with two hits apiece while walker stole two bases,giving him 38 on the season.

With the win, the Barons improved to 71-51 and 27-25 in the second half while Jacksonville fell to 64-54 and 30-21 in the second half.
