Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (August 15, 2013) - The Generals (25-25) won their third in a row Thursday night in a 10-1 rout of the Montgomery Biscuits (23-30) at The Ballpark in Jackson. The Generals rode a six-run second inning and 15 hits that included three home runs. With the series win, Jackson's second-half record is back to .500 for the first time since being 15-15 back on July 25th.
Things got out of hand quickly for Biscuits' starter Jake Thompson. Thompson came into the game 4-0 in his last four starts with a 1.24 ERA, but did not have the same such luck in this start. Jackson sent 11 hitters to the dish in the second inning, which featured a Jabari Blash (3-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB) two-run long ball, and a pair of two-RBI hits from Ramon Morla (2-5, R, 2 RBI) and Ji-Man Choi (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B). Thompson was done after only three innings, but the Generals' offense wasn't.
The home team added another run in the fifth and put up two more in the seventh courtesy of a Julio Morban (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) home run. It was Morban's seventh home run of the season and first since July 26th in Chattanooga. Blash added another solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead to 10-1. The outfielder has now hit in eight of his first ten Double-A games, with four of his 11 hits thus far being home runs.
The pitching staff had another quality night. Trevor Miller (W, 2-1, 5.14) had an unearned run score in the fifth, but allowed only five hits on the night. The right-hander did walk three, but worked his way out of trouble in every frame. The bullpen finished the last four innings by blanking the Biscuits. Forrest Snow (3.00) struck out two batters in two innings, while Stephen Shackleford (3.32) and Moises Hernandez (5.91) had scoreless performances.
Offensively, the Generals left 10 runners on base, but were 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position. They had five players with multi-hit performances and six different Generals scored at least one run. The bottom three hitters in the lineup, Blash, Gabriel Noriega (3-4, 2 R) and Dan Paolini (1-4, BB), combined to go 7-for-12, scoring five runs and driving in three runners.
The Generals look to take their fourth in a row against the Biscuits on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. (CT). Roenis Elias (6-11, 3.29) will get the ball for Jackson and will go up against Enny Romero (10-6, 2.72). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
