Stars No-Hit By BayBears
August 15, 2013 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
Following a come-from-behind victory to begin their series one night earlier, the Huntsville Stars were no-hit by combined five pitchers, losing to the Mobile BayBears by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday night.
For the BayBears, the no-hitter began with starting pitcher Archie Bradley on the mound. The Diamondbacks top prospect twirled five scoreless innings while striking out seven batters and walking five to improve to 9-5 on the season.
After Bradley was taken out of the game with 98 pitches before the sixth inning, four Mobile relievers combined to blank the Stars bats through the final four innings to ensure the no-no.
Righties Matt Gorgen, Derek Eitel and Wily Paredes each tossed an inning of scoreless relief while closer Jake Barrett finished things off in the ninth when he sent down the Stars in order for his 10th save on the year.
On offense, the BayBears capitalized on two Stars errors to give the Mobile hurlers enough run support.
In both the third inning and the seventh inning, BayBears second basemen Mike Freeman reached on an error and ultimately scored on a two-out single by outfielder Ender Inciarte.
Seven games into their season series, Inciarte is 15-for-23 (.652) at the plate against the Stars pitching staff with three of his four homers on the year and seven runs batted in.
In a losing effort, Stars starting pitcher Andy Moye fell to 5-13 on the year after giving up just one unearned run on four hits in six innings of work.
The no-hitter for the BayBears was their first in franchise history. It came just a little over a year after the Stars had a combined no-hitter with five pitchers of their own against the Chattanooga Lookouts on August 2nd, 2012 at Joe Davis Stadium.
With the loss, the Stars winning streak was snapped at three games.
On Thursday, Huntsville will send RHP Taylor Jungmann (9-7, 3.72 ERA) to the hill while the BayBears will counter with LHP Andrew Chafin (9-6, 2.73 ERA).
First pitch is at 6:43 PM.
