Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Falcons signed right wing Boris Protsenko yesterday, hours before the team's game last night against the Alaska Aces, and the native of Kiev, Ukraine, proceeded to score a goal on his first shift as a Falcon.

The 5'11", 194 lb., Protsenko was a third round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He later played two years in the American Hockey League and one year in the ECHL before spending the past two seasons playing in Russia.

In a separate transaction, Fresno suspended rookie defenseman Jason Goulet, who left the club to play Junior A hockey in Saskatchewan.

The team is in the midst of its first extended homestand of the season with the second of five in a row at Save Mart Center this evening against the Charlotte Checkers at 7 p.m.

Friday night is the club's Fourth Annual Teddy Bear Toss also beginning at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring brand new stuffed animals to the game, which they will throw onto the ice when the Falcons score their first goal against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to Community Medical Center and Fresno Child Abuse Prevention. Fans will receive one voucher for a ticket to an upcoming Falcons game for every stuffed animal they bring to the game.

The fourth game of the homestand is on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m., when Fresno hosts the Las Vegas Wranglers. The first 2,000 fans will receive a bobblehead doll in the likeness of the team's all-time leading scorer, Glen Gulutzan, who makes his first appearance at Save Mart Center as the head coach of the Wranglers. Gulutzan's #21 Falcons jersey will be retired during a pre-game ceremony.

Tickets to every Falcons game at Save Mart Center are on sale beginning as low as $8 at the Save Mart Center box office. Tickets can also be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Rite Aid, Tower Records, and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
