Charlotte Keeps Condors in "Check" 4-1

Bakersfield, Calif. – Benoit Dusablon notched a goal and three assists and Brandon Cullen had a pair of third period goals as the Charlotte Checkers won their fourth in a row, 4-1 over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 3,531 fans at Centennial Garden on Tuesday night.

The Condors took an early lead, when Jason Ralph scored his sixth goal of the season on the first shot of the game, just 15 seconds in, for the 1-0 advantage. Andrew Ianiero assisted on the goal, giving him a point in three straight games. After that, however, the Checkers took over the game. They connected on their first power play of the contest, with Doug Christiansen tying the score at 12:07 of the first. They led in shots 17-4 during the opening frame.

Charlotte took the lead during the middle frame, as Dusablon scored to make it 2-1, finishing off a 2-on-1 break. Peter Hirsch kept the Condors in the game as Bakersfield trailed just 2-1, despite being outshot 30-10 through two periods.

Cullen dashed any Condors hopes of a comeback with his two goals in the final period, just 2:57 apart, to make it 4-1 Charlotte, and that would be the final score. The Condors mounted an effort late, finishing the third period with a 13-11 shot advantage, but went scoreless on eight power plays in the game, and fell 4-1. Hirsch took the loss, despite stopping 37 shots for the second-highest save total of the season for a Condors goaltender.

Bakersfield failed to gain ground in the standings on idle San Diego, and fell to 8-11-2 on the season, four points behind the Gulls for fourth place in the Pacific Division. In other action, Alaska extended their division lead to four points with a 5-4 overtime win in Fresno.

The Condors are next in action on Friday night as they look for revenge on the Checkers, in a 7:00pm match. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors "Stars of the Past, Present and Future" poster, courtesy of FOX Sports 800 and the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center. All Condors games can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, with the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl handling the play-by-play. That game will also be carried live on Bright House Networks, Ch. 21, and replayed on Saturday morning at 10:00am.
