Preview: Storm Set for Road Game against Sioux City

Sioux City, IA - The Tri-City Storm hit the road today for a battle against the Sioux City Musketeers. Tri-City is 4-0-0-1 against the Musketeers this season with two games remaining in the regular season series. With two wins this weekend over Sioux City and Sioux Falls, the Storm can clinch a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs.

Tri-City (29-20-2-2) collected three of a possible six points in the Western Conference standings last weekend against Sioux Falls and Omaha. The Storm began the three game weekend by splitting a home series with Sioux Falls. Tri-City defeated the Stampede 2-1 on Friday night at the Viaero Center behind with goals from Adam Goodsir and Keaton Pehrson. Jake Barczewski recorded his 10th career USHL victory in the Storm win. Tri-City dropped a game to Sioux Falls by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday night in front of a home crowd of 3, 467. The Storm got goals from Tyler Ward and Filip Forsmark in the loss. The two goal performance from Forsmark gave him his 8th and 9th goals of the season. In the third game of the weekend, Tri-City fell in overtime on the road against Omaha. The Storm's Blais Richartz netted a 2nd period goal in the 2-1 overtime loss. Tri-City is currently the 5th place team in the Western Conference standings and can clinch a playoff berth by winning both games this weekend. The Storm's magic number is down to five points, Tri-City will qualify for the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs when that number hits zero. Every win Tri-City records decreases the number of points needed to qualify for the playoffs by two, and every game Sioux City loses in regulation time decreases the Storm's magic number by two. Tri-City can shrink the number of points required to clinch a playoff spot down to one with a regulation win in Sioux City. The Storm have seven games left in the regular season schedule. The final game of the season is slated for Saturday April 14th against Lincoln at home.

Sioux City (22-23-4-3) enters tonight's game vs. the Storm as the 7th place team in the Western Conference standings with eight games left in the regular season schedule. The Musketeers are currently 11 points behind Lincoln for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Sioux City won last season's Anderson Cup as the 1st place team in the league standings and the conclusion of the regular season. The Musketeers fell to Chicago in the 2017 Clark Cup Final. In the last matchup between the Storm and the Musketeers, Sioux City won a shootout at the Tyson Events Center by a final score of 3-2 on March 4th. Micah Miller and Bauer Neudecker scored goals for the Musketeers in regulation and Sampo Ranta scored the only goal of the shootout to give Sioux City the victory. Sioux City has won just one of its last six games following the win over Tri-City on March 4th. The Musketeers will attempt to stay alive in the Clark Cup Playoffs race as they host the Storm and the Des Moines Buccaneers this weekend at the Tyson Events Center. Des Moines is currently the only team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention in the Western Conference.
