Madison Capitols News Release
GREEN BAY, WI - Left wing Alec Broetzman led the Madison Capitols to a 4-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers in a Wisconsin Cheese Cup Game, presented by Odyssey Brands, at the Resch Center on Friday night.
Madison (22-28-2-2) is ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference with 48 points. Green Bay (27-22-4-1) sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 59 points.
Broetzman put the Capitols up 3-2 with his team-leading 24th goal of the season at 9:02 of the final frame. Defenseman Colin Felix one-timed the puck from the right point. Center Anthony Callin got his stick on the shot and flipped the puck in the air and over to the right doorstep. Broetzman knocked the puck past goaltender Maksim Zhukov for the goal.
Center Nolan Moyle started off the scoring with his 17th goal of the season at 9:37 of the opening period. The Gamblers were skating on the power play and cycling the puck from defenseman Ryan Verrier at the point to right wing Brock Caufield in the right circle. Caufield found Moyle in the left circle to beat Capitols netminder Joey Lamoreaux. Green Bay took a 1-0 lead with the power play goal.
Right wing Ryan O'Reilly tied the game at 1-1 with his 19th goal of the season at 11:02 of the first period. Deep in the Gamblers zone, Broetzman grabbed the puck in the left corner and found O'Reilly on the left doorstep. O'Reilly flipped the puck over Zhukov to tied the game.
Just 29-seconds later, center Michael Mancinelli scored his 16th goal of the season to give the Capitols a 2-1 advantage. Broetzman slipped the puck over to Mancinelli in the slot for the one-timer and the go-ahead goal at 11:33 of the first period.
The Gamblers tied the game at 2-2 with right wing Lean Bergmann's ninth goal of the season just 42-seconds into the middle frame. Left wing McKade Webster collected the puck in the right corner from center Josh Dunne. Webster found Bergmann in the slot for redirection into the net.
Forward Kamil Sadlocha finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:45 of the final period for a 4-2.
Lamoreaux (4-7-1-0) earned his fourth win of the season stopping 48-of-50 shots. Zhukov (24-17-3-1) took his 17th loss of the season stopping 18-of-21 shots.
Madison and Green Bay both went 1-for-1 on the power play.
