Preview: Rockets at Cougars
February 17, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets will be looking to jump back into the win column when they head up to Prince George to take on the Cougars Friday and Saturday night at the CN Centre - puck drop is 7:00 pm both nights.
It's a short turnaround time, the two just faced each other on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna. The Cougars won their second straight game against the Rockets with a 5-2 victory.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard first and didn't look back once. Jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period, the Cougars were able to hold off any kind of Rockets comeback, quickly answering when the Rockets finally found the back of the net in the third period. John Babcock and Adam Kydd were the goal scorers for the Rockets. Jari Kykkanen's record moved to 3-1-0-0, he made 23 saves on 28 shots.
Rockets head coach Kris Mallette said following last night that the mindset would be to dish it right back to the Cougars, but use the loss as a learning experience.
"Return the favour," said Mallette. "I know that we're a good team, our guys know that we're a good team. We'll learn from this, hopefully, our guys have some pride in regards to the way that we lost the game tonight and make sure that they're going to right this ship."
ROSTER UPDATES
The Rockets will continue to be without right-winger Jake Poole (appendicitis). Colton Dach has been suspended two games for check to the head major and g.m. versus Tri-City on February 12, he will be eligible to return to the Rockets lineup on Saturday.
