Power Sweeps Doubleheader

(Charleston, WV- April 23, 2015) - For the first time this season West Virginia swept a doubleheader after they downed the Lexington Legends 3-2 in walkoff fashion in game one and 5-2 in the nightcap. Jerrick Suiter provided the walkoff hit in the first game while Chase Simpson and Pablo Reyes each went yard in the game two to give West Virginia its eighth and ninth wins of 2015.

Game one saw the Power strike first in the fourth inning. Taylor Gushue led off the inning on a double and advanced to third on an error. Suiter followed the error with an RBI single to plate Gushue.

The lead didn't last long for West Virginia after Lexington scored twice in the fifth but the Power tied it in the home half of the inning. With one out, Pablo Reyes drew a walk and reached third on a throwing error by Lexington catcher Kevin Pollock. Jordan Luplow, appearing in his first career game at Appalachian Power Park, knocked a single to left to score Reyes to tie the game at two.

With the game sent into extras, the Power tallied its second walkoff of the season. Michael Suchy hit a one-out single to right, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored when Suiter hit an infield single with two outs and a poor throw to first allowed Suchy to motor home.

Jake Burnette (1-2) earned the victory after hurling three shutout innings in relief while Kevin McCarthy (0-1) took the loss for Lexington. Dovydas Neverauskas hurled five innings and allowed two runs on three hits but did not factor into the decision.

Game two saw the Power get off to a slow start after an RBI double from Lexington's Luis Villegas, but West Virginia took the lead in the second and never looked back. Chase Simpson clubbed his second home run of the year to right to tie the game at one. Following a strikeout, wild pitch which put Tyler Filliben on first, Kawika Emsley-Pai hit a double to right to score Filliben.

Already leading 2-1, West Virginia added insurance in the following innings. Reyes clubbed his second homer of 2015 to the opposite field to make it 3-1 in the third. Jeff Roy plated the fourth run of the game after he reached on a single, stole second, and scored on an Elvis Escobar single. Escobar tallied the last run of the game when he scored on a throwing error.

Miguel Rosario (1-0) earned the win in a spot start after hurling five innings of one-run ball. Corey Ray (0-1) suffered the loss despite striking out 11 batters over 5.2 innings.

West Virginia and Lexington continue their five-game series with game three on Friday night with RHP Austin Coley (2-0, 2.70) taking the bump against Legends RHP Zach Lovvorn (0-1, 2.08). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 and 1490 and TuneIn Radio begins at 6:45 p.m.

Friday night at Appalachian Power Park features postgame fireworks presented by Brickstreet Insurance and V100. Gates open to the general public at 6 p.m.
