Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive (8-6) opened up a five-game homestand with some heroics on Thursday night, as Derek Miller's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Drive a walk-off 5-4 victory over the Asheville Tourists (6-8) in front of 5,277 fans at Fluor Field.

The inning began when Javier Guerra reached second base after an Asheville error. Josh Michalec (0-1) recorded the next two outs to move closer to escaping trouble, but Miller followed with a slicing fly ball that fell just out of reach of a diving Randy Reyes to set off the celebration.

The Drive received a big boost from a pair of relievers on Thursday, as Williams Jerez struck out six in three innings of work and Chandler Shepherd (2-0) worked a perfect ninth to earn the win.

Asheville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third against Jalen Beeks. Wes Rogers brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly, a throwing error scored the second run, and a Drew Weeks RBI single plated the third run.

The Drive bounced back in the next two innings to tie things up at three. Francisco Tellez doubled with one out in the third and later scored on a wild pitch, and Javier Guerra laced a two-run triple to center field in the fourth.

After an Asheville run in the top of the eighth put them back on top, the Drive immediately tied the game in the bottom half on a Rafael Devers RBI groundout.

Devers led the Greenville offense with a three-hit game, and Mauricio Dubon and Mike Meyers added two hits apiece. Wall, Weeks and Yonathan Daza had two hits apiece for Asheville.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Fluor Field, as the final game of the series in Asheville between the two teams this past Sunday was postponed due to weather. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Game one begins at 4:30 PM and features Drive RH Jeffry Fernandez (0-1, 1.80) vs. Tourists RH Ryan Castellani (0-0, 2.57). Drive RH Reed Reilly (0-1, 6.00) makes his first start of the season in game two, and the Tourists will counter with RH Logan Sawyer (1-1, 10.13).
