Viza Dazzles as Claws Blank Suns 4-0

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Tyler Viza threw a career-long 7.1 innings of shutout ball as the BlueClaws kicked off their homestand with a 4-0 win over Hagerstown on Thursday night.

Viza, who threw seven innings three times last year with Lakewood, got one out in the 7th before Jesen Therrien entered with two men on base. Therrien recorded the last five outs for his first save of the season.

Lakewood improved to 7-8 on the season while Hagerstown fell to 6-8.

Malquin Canelo led off the first inning with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single by Damek Tomscha. Lakewood extended their lead to 2-0 in the 4th inning on a solo home run by Deivi Grullon, his first of the year and second as a pro.

After Mario Sanchez relieved Drew Van Orden at the start of the 6th inning, Lakewood added two runs - one on an RBI single by Cord Sandberg and another when Carlos Tocci stole third and scored on a throwing error.

Canelo went 3-4 with two doubles and how has eight to lead the league. Grullon went 2-4 as well.

Carlos Tocci extended his hitting streak to 10 with a double in the 7th inning, the second straight day he's extended his hitting streak in his last at bat. Tocci is 15-40 over the hitting streak and hitting .370 on the season.

The BlueClaws continue their series with Hagerstown on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (0-2, 8.38) starts for Lakewood against RHP Phillips Valdez (1-1, 2.70).
