Power Spoils Legends Bid For First Place

The West Virginia dropped the Lexington Legends 2-1 on Tuesday night on a walk-off home run by Hasan Rasheed in the bottom half of the 11th inning. The loss keeps the Legends in second place. Lake County pounded first place Hagerstown, 12-2. The Captains are in third place but just two games back of first and a game back of the Legends.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the ninth inning. Hunter Pence and Ben Zobrist led of with consecutive singles for the Legends. Mitch Einertson attempted to bunt both runners into scoring position but Pence was retired on a controversial out at third.

Both manager Tim Bogar and coach Rodney Linares vigorously disputed the call. Linares' was eventually ejected.

When the game resumed, Kevin Vital singled to right scoring Zobrist to give the Legends a 1-0 lead. The Power tied the game with a run scoring triple by Hernan Iribarren.

Jimmy Barthmaier was brilliant in a no-decision. Barthmaier tossed seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.93. Ryan Thompson (1-3) suffered the loss after serving up Rasheed's homer.

Game two of the four game series is set for Wednesday afternoon. Ryan McKeller will battle Brian Montalbo at 1:05pm. The Progressive Direct pre-game will kickoff Legends Network coverage at 12:50.
