Captains Tighten First-Half Race

(Hagerstown, MD)--The Lake County Captains continued their amazing offensive resurgence at Hagerstown Tuesday, pounding out 18 hits in a 12-2 win over the Suns at Municipal Stadium.

The win pulled the Captains to within two games of first place in the SAL North first-half race. Just 11 games remain in the first half, and Hagerstown, Lexington and Lake County are separated by only two games.

A night afetr setting team records with 18 runs and 22 hits in a win over Delmarva, the Captains engineered another sensational offensive effort, jumping out to a quick 8-0 lead by the fourth inning against Jose Sanchez (9-1).

Mike Butia enjoyed his second straight four-hit night, going 4-5 with a home run in the second inning. Butia collected a pair of RBI, and now leads the team with 39.

Wyatt Toregas delvired a two-run single in the first inning when the Captains jumped to a 3-0 lead. Toregas added an RBI double in the fourth.

Chris Gimenez homered for the Captains (34-25), a two-run homer in the fifth.

Lefty Aaron Laffey (5-2) worked six strong innings for the victory. Laffey scattered six hits and allowed just one run.

The Captains have won four of five meetings with the Suns (36-23) this season.
