
BlueClaws Homer their Way Past Delmarva

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (18-37) opened up a short two game series with the Delmarva Shorebird (25-33), Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, Tuesday night with Lakewood winning 5-2. Four of the five runs scored in the game for Lakewood came via the home-run.
The BlueClaws got a strong pitching performance from their starter Maximino De La Cruz (W, 2-7) who pitched the complete game, his fourth of the year. De La Cruz located his pitches all night with only one getting away from him which resulted in a solo-homer to C.J. Smith to lead off the second inning.
Lakewood took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Sam Orr connected for a two-run homer with two outs in the inning. It was Orr's team leading 10th homer of the year. Jesus Merchan connected for a base hit with one out in the inning then scored on the homer from Orr.
The BlueClaws added two more runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 4-1. Brad Harman and Doug Gredvig connected for back-to-back homers to lead off the fourth inning. It was Harman's second homer of the year and Gredvig's third homer of the year.
Lakewood added another run in the fifth on an RBI base hit from Orr scoring Mike Dzurilla from third. Orr finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored. Orr increased his team leading RBI total to 42.
Dzurilla went 3-for-4 in the game while Gredvig finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
De La Cruz allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out four and leads the South Atlantic League with four complete games.
The BlueClaws wrap up their six game home stand and two game series with the Shorebirds, Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. Lakewood will send right-hander Nate Johnson (4-2, 3.41) to the mound while the Shorebirds will counter with Dennis Robinson (2-5, 4.50). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
