
Power Splits with Delmarva

(Charleston, WV - July 4, 2015) - The West Virginia Power split the two games with the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. The first game was a resumption of Sunday's suspended contest with the Power winning 5-2, but West Virginia fell in the nightcap by a 4-3 final in seven innings.
In the resumed game, which originally began on Sunday afternoon, the Power scored three runs in the second inning. Chase Simpson hit a single up the middle to plate Tito Polo and Simpson scored one batter later on a two-run home run by Francisco Diaz.
Delmarva scored a run in the fourth inning against Colten Brewer, who was solid in his start. The right hander struck out seven over four innings but the rain forced Sunday's game to be suspended in the bottom of the fourth with one out.
Sunday's game resumed on Monday evening and the Power offense picked up right where they left off. Simpson drew a one-out walk and Diaz hit a single to load the bases for Tyler Filliben, he drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a 4-1 game. In the fifth the Power added their final run of the game when Tito Polo hit an RBI single to score Jordan Luplow.
John Sever (3-2) earned the win with three innings of two-hit ball and the lefty allowed one unearned run. Delmarva's starting pitcher Lucas Long (2-3) suffered the loss while Jake Burnette picked up his first career save with two perfect innings in relief.
Game two saw the Power fall behind early on an RBI single by Yermin Mercedes but West Virginia rallied for two in the bottom of the first. Cole Tucker hit a leadoff triple and scored when Elvis Escobar hit an RBI groundout. Connor Joe followed with a double to left and he scored two batters later on a Jerrick Suiter double to right.
Leading 2-1, the Shorebirds battled back by scoring two in the second inning on a two-run home run by Steve Wilkerson. The 'Birds added another run in the third from a solo home run by Logan Uxa.
Trailing 4-2, West Virginia rallied in the fifth inning. Jeff Roy scored from first on a double hit into the gap by Escobar to make it a one-run game.
Stefan Crichton (3-1) earned the win in relief for the Shorebirds while Power starter Austin Coley (10-5) suffered the loss after he surrendered four runs over four innings. It was the first time Coley took a loss since June 2.
The Power (9-3, 46-35) conclude the four-game series with the Shorebirds (7-5, 40-40) on Tuesday night. LHP Stephen Tarpley (4-2, 2.57) will take the mound against Delmarva RHP Matthew Grimes (6-4, 4.21). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 and 1490, the TuneIn Radio App, and the Power website is slated for 6:45 p.m.
Tuesday's game is a Tailgate Tuesday presented by Tailgate 107.3 with $2 Italian sausages from 6 p.m. until the first pitch. Throughout the entire night, all fans ages 21 and up can purchase $2 16 oz. drafts.
