Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs were held scoreless for the second time in the series as they fell 1-0 to the Rome Braves in front of 4,207 fans Monday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Justin Kamplain (2-10) pitched six innings for Charleston and only gave up one unearned run. However, he was out-dueled by Rome's starter Yean Carlos Gil (1-1). Gil pitched a complete-game shutout and the RiverDogs (4-8 second half, 38-44 overall) only mustered five hits. It was the first time this season that the RiverDogs have been on the losing end of a complete game shutout.
Rome (6-5, 37-44) scored their only run in the top of the sixth, after five scoreless innings to begin the game. Ozhaino Albies led off with a double down the left field line. Omar Obregon laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Kamplain unleashed a wild throw that allowed Albies to score from second.
The RiverDogs only threatened to score once in the game in the bottom of the third. Jorge Mateo drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a two-out single by Austin Aune. The runners were stranded on the corners when Isaias Tejeda grounded out to third to end the inning.
Dillon McNamara and Angel Rincon combined for three scoreless innings of relief to keep the score 1-0. But the RiverDogs failed to score and have now lost all six home games against Rome this season.
