Power Pulls Away Late in 7-2 Series-Clinching Win

ROME, GA - West Virginia's offense tallied four runs across the eighth and the ninth innings to claim a 7-2 victory over the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium.
The Power (29-30, 66-59) started the game off with a bang. After Raul Hernandez was hit by a pitch by Alan Rangel (5-7) with two outs in the second, Robbie Glendinning sent a ball skyward over the left-field fence to put the Power up 2-0. It was the third baseman's second homer since his promotion to the Low-A level.
The offense kept going in the third. Rodolfo Castro kicked things off with a single with one out in the inning. Next, Calvin Mitchell moved him to second with a single before Deon Stafford roped an RBI single down the left-field line to plate West Virginia's second baseman and increase the Power's lead to 3-0.
Rome threatened to tie the game, scoring a run in the fifth and seventh, but West Virginia added two in the eighth and ninth to push ahead for good. Rafelin Lorenzo led off the inning by reaching on one of the four errors the Braves committed throughout the afternoon. After a Hernandez base knock, Glendinning sacrifice bunted the two runners into scoring position. Lorenzo then scored as Ryan Peurifoy reached on a fielding error before Hernandez came around on a wild pitch by reliever Zach Daniels.
The bats kept rolling in the ninth. Mitchell started the inning with a single before Lorenzo added a double to left. Hernandez plated Mitchell with a single and Glendinning brought home Lorenzo after reaching on an error.
Hunter Stratton (6-5) earned the win, shutting down the Braves after allowing the first two runners he faced to reach safely. The righty spun five innings, allowing just one run while striking out four batters.
Drew Fischer made it through two innings of work while ceding just one run.
Logan Stoelke and Beau Sulser (S, 7) combined to toss the final two frames, with Sulser giving up just one hit over 1.2 innings.
West Virginia returns home for the final time this season to begin a four-game set against the Hagerstown Suns, beginning Monday, August 27, at 7:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. LHP Ike Schlabach (6-4, 3.87 ERA) gets the nod for the Power, while the Suns counter with righty Sam Held (5-6, 3.54 ERA).
