
Legends Fall in Game Four; Split Series with Suns

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends split the four-game series with the Hagerstown Suns falling 11-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Legends still remain atop the Southern Division with eight games left to play in the regular season.
Hagerstown plated their first runs in the top of the first inning. Armond Upshaw lined a leadoff double to left field then scored on a two-run home run by Anderson Franco.
The Suns struck again in the top of the second inning. Paul Panaccione blasted a solo homer to left field and Hagerstown led 3-0.
In the top of the third, Cole Freeman reached on a single to left field and moved to third on a single by Jake Scudder. A sacrifice fly by Anderson Franco brought home Freeman and the Suns led 4-0.
The Legends then plated three in the bottom of the third inning. Ricky Aracena lined a double to left field then was joined on the base path by Brewer Hicklen when he drew a walk. MJ Melendez then smacked a three-run home run to right field and Lexington was on the board, 4-3.
In the top of the fourth inning, Nick Choruby drew a leadoff walk then moved to second a two-base error by the Legends off of Panaccione's hit. Upshaw then loaded the bases with a walk. Cole Freeman then lined an RBI single to left field to score a run. Anderson Franco then drew a bases loaded walk, bringing in another run for the Suns. Hagerstown then scored another two runs off the second error of the inning and they led 8-3.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cal Jones reached on the Suns' first error of the game for Hagerstown. Carlos Diaz then singled and Jeison Guzman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aracena then hit a single to left field then advanced to second on another Suns error. On the play, Jones and Diaz scored and the Legends pulled within three runs, 8-5.
Hagerstown continued to score in the top of the sixth inning. Freeman led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by Omar Meregildgo to centerfield.
In the top of the eighth inning, Freeman reached on a Legends error then moved to second base on a wild pitch. Franco then singled, bringing home Freeman and the Suns were up, 10-5.
The Legends scored their final run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Brewer Hicklen roped a single to right field and advanced to third on a double by Melendez. Manny Olloque then popped up a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Hicklen.
Jhonathan German was awarded the victory for the Suns tossing 3.0 innings allowing one hit while walking one and striking out seven. Charlie Neuweiler was given the loss pitching 3.1 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out four.
The Legends will next welcome in the Augusta Greenjackets for final regular season series. The first game will be tomorrow, August 27 at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Both pitchers are TBD.
