Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power lost 5-3 to the Lexington Legends Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Legends scored four times in the second inning to build a lead that the Power could not overcome.

West Virginia gained the early advantage with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Evan Chambers doubled and scored on a base hit by David Rubinstein. The run batted in was Rubinstein's fourteenth of the season, 11 of which have occurred this month.

In the Lexington half of the second, four runs scored on five hits against Power starter Maurice Bankston. Grant Hogue singled in a run and Jose Altuve hit a three-run home run.

Kyle Morgan drove an 0-1 pitch from David Duncan over the wall in right with two outs in the bottom of the second inning to cut the deficit to a pair. It was Morgan's fourth home run of the season and second at Appalachian Power Park.

In the seventh, Morgan hit a two out triple and scored on a wild pitch to bring the Power within one at 4-3. The Legends would score again in the ninth against Duke Welker to cap the scoring.

Bankston (2-2) took the loss after surrendering the four-run second inning, while Duncan (3-0) earned the win with five innings of work. Kirk Clark struck out the side in the ninth for his eighth save and second in as many nights.

Morgan had the lone two hit game for West Virginia, which split the series with Lexington by winning the first two games but falling in the final two. Three different Legends had multi-hit games, led by Altuve, as Lexington outscored the Power 10-7 over the final two game of the set after being shutout twice in the first two.

West Virginia opens a four game weekend series against the division-leading Hickory Crawdads on Friday night. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 pm with Brandon Holden making the start for the Power against Robbie Erlin. The clubs will play at 7:05 pm Saturday as well, while Sunday's game is slated for a 2:05 first pitch and Monday's finale is scheduled to start at 1:05 pm.
