Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - A two-out error extended what would turn out to be a two-run eighth inning for the Rome Braves as the Braves came from behind to defeat the Augusta GreenJackets 5-4 on Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

With two outs and a one-run lead, the GreenJackets let things slip away in the eighth inning. A Chris Dominguez throwing error extended the inning, allowing Jake Hanson to single and Mycal Jones to double home two runs off BJ Salsbury - who's thrown into the eighth inning in his last four starts now.

Salsbury (4-3) emerges as the tough-luck loser, allowing five runs - three earned - on nine hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. He survived a rocky first couple innings, allowing an RBI groundout in the first and a run-scoring double by Jace Whitmer in the second.

Augusta put a three-spot on the board to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the second. With the bases full, Ryan Lollis singled home a pair to tie the game at two. Daniel Cook's sacrifice fly gave the Jackets a lead they'd hold through most of the game later that inning. The GreenJackets made it a two-run lead in the fifth on an Evan Crawford sacrifice fly before Rome chipped away in the seventh, making it a one-run contest on a Matt Weaver sacrifice fly.

Robinson Lopez delivered a solid start for Rome and despite allowing all four Augusta runs, he did so on just four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Jeff Lorick (1-0) allowed one hit in a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win for the Braves. Thomas Berryhill retired six of the seven hitters he faced with two strikeouts to earn his first save of the season.

The Asheville Tourists come to town for a four-game series over Memorial Day Weekend. Jeremy Toole (1-0, 1.35) gets the ball for Augusta to face Jonathan Vargas (0-5, 7.11) in the opener. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
