
Power and Shorebirds Split Twinbill

The West Virginia Power split a doubleheader with the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. The Power took game one 3-2 but fell in the second game by a 7-2 final.
Delmarva took the early lead in the early game with a solo home run by Adam Davis in the top of the second inning. Davis had entered the game as a defensive replacement at catcher in the bottom of the first and the change paid off with his second home run of the season.
West Virginia took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third. Alen Hanson walked and scored on a single by Gregory Polanco to tie the game at one. Polanco then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Osuna to put the Power ahead 2-1.
TheShorebirds plated their second run against Power starter Robby Rowland in the top of the fifth inning, but West Virginia would score the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Francisco Diaz.
Rowland (9-5) garnered the win with six innings of work before Nathan Kilcrease earned his Power record 15th save with a scoreless seventh. Williams Louico (0-7) was charged with all three runs and took the loss for Delmarva.
In game two, the Shorebirds broke up a scoreless tie after two innings with a six-run third. Delmarva sent nine batters to the plate and took advantage of a walk and a Power error. Davis hit a two-run home run to cap the scoring at six.
West Virginia managed to break up the shutout in the fifth inning against Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell. After walks by Alex Fuselier and Francisco Aponte, Ashley Ponce doubled down the right field line to bring in two runs and cut the deficit to four at 6-2.
Delmarva added a run in the seventh against the Power bullpen on a walk and two singles.
Zac Fuesser (3-7) made the start for the Power and took the loss after allowing all six third inning runs. Bridwell (5-9) picked up with win with five innings of work.
West Virginia and Delmarva conclude the 2012 season on Labor Day with a 1:05 pm game at Appalachian Power Park. Zack Von Rosenberg and Zach Davies are slated to pitch the season finale for the Power and Shorebirds, respectively.
