Davis Leads Shorebirds to Doubleheader Split

Charleston, WV - The Delmarva Shorebirds (24-44) scored six runs in the third inning of game two of a doubleheader and cruised to a 7-2 win over the West Virginia Power (37-32) on Sunday afternoon. The Power won game one of the doubleheader 3-2.

In game one, the Shorebirds struck first in the second inning on a solo homer to left field by Adam Davis, his second of the year.

The Power countered in the bottom of the third to grab a 2-1 edge. Alen Hanson drew a one out walk and scored on a triple by Gregory Polanco. The next batter, Jose Osuna, lifted a sacrifice fly to right-center field to plate Polanco.

The Shorebirds tied the game in the fifth inning. Jason Esposito reached to lead off on an error by first baseman Jose Osuna. With one out, Anthony Caronia singled to right field to advance Esposito to third. Later in the inning, Adrian Marin lofted a single to shallow left field to tie the game at 2-2.

The Power pulled back in front in the sixth inning. Jose Osuna dropped a single into left-center field to open the inning. Dan Gamache placed a perfect bunt single. Then, Williams Louico walked Taylor Lewis to load the bases. Bobby Wilkins entered out of the bullpen with the bases loaded and nobody out. With one out, Francisco Diaz lifted a ball to deep right-center to score Gamache.

West Virginia starter Robby Rowland earned the win over six innings. He yielded six hits and one earned run. Rowland fanned four and did not issue a walk.

Michael Ohlman was the lone Shorebirds player with multiple hits (2-for-3).

Louico was pinned with the loss over five innings. He surrendered just four hits and three runs. Louico walked four and struck out two.

In game two, the Shorebirds sent nine batters to the plate in the third inning to build a commanding -6-0 lead. Dudley Leonora walked and later scored on a chopper to short by Narron that was misplayed by Ashley once. Michael Ohlman then doubled to deep left field to increase the lead to 2-0. Wynston Sawyer lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to stretch the lead to 3-0. Jason Esposito hit an opposite field single to put the Shorebirds up 4-0. Then, Adam Davis capped the inning with a line drive homer to left field, his second of the day.

The Power plated two runs in the fifth inning on a double by Ashley Ponce to score Alex Fuselier and Francisco Aponte, who both walked.

In the seventh inning, Sawyer hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to score Lucas Herbst, who led off with a walk.

Parker Bridwell earned the win in game two over five innings. He yielded three hits and two runs.

Jesse Beal entered in the sixth inning and faced the minimum over the final two innings. Beal struck out two batters.

Ohlman went 4-for-7 with a run and an RBI in the doubleheader while Davis went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.

The Shorebirds play the final game of the 2012 season on Monday afternoon at 1:05pm. RHP Zach Davies is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
