Wednesday, March 19, 2003: St. John's Maple Leafs 1 vs. Binghamton Senators 5
Perhaps Jay Harrison, the guitar-playing defenceman for the St. John's Maple Leafs, could strum out the John Lennon tune and everyone could sing along.
"Nobody told me there'd be days like these. Strange days indeed."
Or maybe it should be Aerosmith's The Other Side, where Steve Tyler had a good idea of what was coming down the pike, because "mama told me there'd be days like these."
Whatever the case, absolutely nothing went right for the St. John's Maple Leafs Wednesday night.
At Mile One Stadium, the Leafs looked entirely off their game in dropping a 5-1 decision to the Binghamton Senators, snapping a five-game winning streak for St. John's. Elsewhere in the American Hockey League, the Albany River Rats, Springfield Falcons and Saint John Flames, the three teams, who along with the Leafs, are hankering after the 10th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, all earned points.
The Maple Leafs next action is this Friday when they take on the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Copps Coliseum. Listen LIVE on Radio NF (930AM) and on www.sjmapleleafs.ca.
