
Sound Tigers Moving Down Radio Dial April 2nd

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced they will move the flagship radio station of their broadcast network to "News/Talk 960" WELI-AM.
"News/Talk 960" WELI will broadcast all remaining Sound Tigers' games during the 2002-03 season beginning with the Wednesday, April 2nd rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals with the Hamilton Bulldogs and running through the end of the AHL's 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs. Sound Tigers' broadcasts will move to "News/Talk 960" WELI from "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 WAVZ-AM which will begin its coverage of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees on March 31st.
"Clear Channel has been instrumental in helping the Sound Tigers enhance our broadcast efforts, and we are excited they have been able to secure the New York Yankees on 'The ZONE'," said Sound Tigers Chief Financial Officer Brian Kelley. "The move to 'News/Talk 960' WELI will allow an expanded area of our fan base to access Bill McLaughlin's call of Sound Tigers hockey as we approach the 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs."
"We are thrilled by our first-year association with the Sound Tigers. The fans love them and we love them too," said Manuel Rodriguez, general manager of Clear Channel Communications which operates "News/Talk 960" WELI, "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 and KC 101 FM.
"AHL hockey is alive and well, and our stations are proud to bring the Sound Tigers' games to more of their loyal fans in Greater New Haven and all across Southern Connecticut," added Jerry Kristafer, program director at "News/Talk 960" WELI & "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300.
The Sound Tigers will continue to broadcast on "The ZONE" up until the start of the Yankees' 2003 broadcast schedule. All Sound Tigers' games will continue to be web cast at www.soundtigers.com, and WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350 AM will continue to broadcast Sound Tigers' road games.
