Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Dash For Cash is one of the Winterhawks' most popular promotions of the season, and the team is announcing changes to the format this season, as well as the ways fans can enter to win a spot in the contest.

The Dash For Cash will be the team's first big promotion of the season, set to take place in the second intermission on Saturday, November 7 when the Winterhawks host the Seattle Thunderbirds at the Rose Garden. During the intermission, $10,000 in silver dollars will be spread out at center ice, and forty people will have two minutes to race to center ice to pick up as many of the silver dollars as they can.

There are multiple ways fans can enter to win one of the forty Dash For Cash spots:

* By bringing a group of 20 or more fans to a game. The group leaders who bring the 10 biggest groups to the game will each get a spot

* During in-game promotions at Winterhawks games leading up to November 7

* Spots will be given away randomly to fans that night at the game

* And new this year spots will be given away through the team's online and technological properties: Winterhawks.com, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and texting

The online giveaways will be rolled out daily, beginning with the text-to-win component. Fans who wish to begin entering through texting should text thehawks*cash to 41411. The winner of the texting component will be notified via text on Friday, November 6. The winners in the other formats will be notified October 30. Each winner will receive a free pair of tickets to the game in addition to their spot in the contest.

Fans will be able to begin entering to win through the team's Twitter feed tomorrow, Facebook page Wednesday, Winterhawks.com on Thursday and YouTube on Friday. Check Winterhawks.com each day for details on how to enter through each site.

Another new wrinkle this season is that fans who aren't on the ice picking up silver dollars can still win big money. The 40 people on the ice will be split into two teams. After the Dash For Cash is complete, each team's total will be added up, and one lucky fan will win the same amount of money as the winning team's biggest earner.

"The Dash For Cash is a Winterhawks institution fans look forward to every year, and with more ways for fans to win a spot and get their chance at $10,000 it's better than ever," said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. "Plus, with two minutes to pick up coins this year, the lucky contestants get twice as much time from previous years."

Great seats for season tickets and group packages for the 2009-10 season are still available. Call 503-236-HAWK to reserve your spot today.
