Friday, October 16th Kamloops Blazers 5 Regina Pats 4 ot

The Pats dominated the Kamloops Blazers for most of the hockey game, but as it happens many times in hockey, came out on the wrong end of a 5-4 overtime loss. Jon Groenheyde was unbelievable between the pipes for the Blazers with a 42 save performance. Scoring for the Pats in the loss was Graham Hood, Brett Leffler, Matt Strueby and Colten Teubert.

Saturday, October 17th Regina Pats 4 Lethbridge Hurricanes 1

The Pats wore special light blue and pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and they brought a little luck. It was more hard work than luck though as the Pats killed 8 of 9 penalties and went 3 for 4 with the man-advantage for the 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Jordan Eberle had two goals and an assist, Matt Delahey picked up a couple of assists while Matt Strueby and Colten Teubert added singles. Damien Ketlo was fantastic in his first start since tweaking his hamstring September 30th in Prince Albert, stopping 33 of 34 shots.

Just the Facts:

Pats Swap Euros:

The Regina Pats changed up their import situation Friday by sending forward Michal Poletin home to the Czech Republic and listing 18 year old left winger, Hampus Gustafsson. Gustafsson spent training camp with the Saskatoon Blades, but was the odd man out in their import situation. He was a member of Sweden's U-18 team, but was unable to play because of an ankle injury. He is only the 2nd Swede to play for the Pats; the other was Nicklas Barklund (91-93)

Pats Acquire Carlson:

This morning the Pats acquired 18 year old defenceman, Cody Carlson, from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for a 3rd round 2010 WHL Bantam Draft pick. Carlson, a Victoria, B.C. native is a power play specialist that has spent the past two seasons with the Tigers.

Eberle Climbs the Charts:

Since coming back from Edmonton Oilers training camp, Jordan Eberle has scored in all but one game, and is now tied for 6th in the WHL in scoring with 16 points.

Eberle topping the charts:

Jordan Eberle is currently the Pats active leader in goals with 114 for his Pat career. This pushes him into the top 20 all time and in a tie with of Taylor Hall (81-84) and Doug Trapp (82-85) and is now 3 back of Clark Gillies (71-74). Eberle's 221 points puts him past Darren Veitch (76-80) on the all time points list and 5 points behind Brent Pascal (77-82).

Good To Be Back:

With his 33 save performance on Saturday night, goaltender Damien Ketlo has pushed himself into the top 10 goalies in the WHL. His 2.77 GAA is 7th in the WHL, while the sparkling .921 save percentage is third best in the WHL.

Special Teams

With solid special teams this weekend, the Pats have climbed the rankings on both their power play and penalty kill. They have the 5th best power play at 25.9%, while the penalty kill is slowly climbing back with a 16th ranked 77.9%. The story is the power play versus shorthanded differential; the Brandon Wheat Kings lead the league with the +10, while the Pats are last in the league with a whopping -23.

Around the office:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

The Regina Pats are proud to have been one of the forerunners in the WHL for the cause of Brest Cancer Awareness. For the past few seasons, the blue and white have raised money for the Canadian Cancer Society with the sales of pink Pats memorabilia and the auctioning of pink game worn jersey's. The big night was this past Saturday in the 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. If the past is any indication, there will be yet another big donation to the Canadian Cancer Society's breast cancer "Research to Recovery" fund.

Sportsman's Dinner is around the corner:

It's not until January 28th, but the Regina Pats Sportsman's Dinner is back this season, in conjunction with another Pats/Warriors alumni weekend. The dinner is on Thursday, January 28th, with tickets available at the Pats office.
