Hitmen To Play Four Games In Six Days

CALGARY HITMEN NEWS AND NOTES

HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen are in Red Deer Tuesday night to face the Rebels. The Hitmen are coming off Sunday's thrilling 6-5 come-from-behind home ice win over the Portland Winterhawks. Brandon Kozun scored the game winner with 39.7 seconds remaining. The Hitmen twice battled back erasing a 3-0 second period deficit and a 4-3 third period deficit to produce the win. Chase Schaber led the scoring attack with four points (1g 3a) while Matt MacKenzie had a three point (3a) afternoon. Ian Schultz, Cody Sylvester and Tyler Fiddler also scored for Calgary while Jaynen Rissling chipped in a pair of assists. Calgary outshot the Winterhawks 39-29.

VS RED DEER: Tuesday is the third of six meetings with the Rebels. Calgary leads the season series 2-0.

-Sept. 18 in Red Deer; Hitmen 6 Rebels 2. Tyler Fiddler scored a natural hat trick.

-Sept. 27 in Calgary; Hitmen 3 Rebels 2. Joel Broda scored the game winner snapping a 2-2 third period tie with a powerplay goal at 14:14.

The Hitmen and Rebels will meet again on Wednesday, February 24th in Calgary.

2009-10 HITMEN STANDINGS: Record (8-3). Home (2-2). Road (6-1). Central Division (Tied for first with Medicine Hat). Conference (Four-way tie for first with Medicine Hat, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw). Western Hockey League (Four way tie for third with Medicine Hat, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw).

DEFENCE FIRST: The Hitmen have scored only five first period goals all season. They have scored 18 in the second and 17 in the third. Meanwhile of the 34 goals allowed only five have been scored in the first period.

STREAKIN': Brandon Kozun is on a four game point streak (3g 4a). Tyler Fiddler (2g) and Jaynen Rissling (3a) both have points in back-to-back games.

WHL TOP 10: Brandon Kozun is in a three-way tie for fifth in WHL scoring with 18 points. Michael Snider has the sixth best goals against average at 2.48 while Matt MacKenzie is eighth in defencemen scoring with 11 points.

DRAFTED PLAYERS: The Hitmen have six NHL prospects ... Joel Broda-(5th round Washington 2008), Kris Foucault-(4th round Minnesota 2009), Martin Jones-(FA signing LA Kings '08), Brandon Kozun-(6th round LA 2009), Ian Schultz-(3rd round St. Louis 2008), Michael Stone-(3rd round Phoenix 2008).

HITMEN ALUMNI: Keith Seabrook who played two seasons with the Hitmen (2007-08 to 2008-09) is in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Heat. The 21-year-old defenceman has four points (2g 2a) in six games.

UP NEXT: The Hitmen play their fourth game in five nights Wednesday when they open a home and home series with the Oil Kings at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Calgary will then make the return trip to Rexall Place on Friday.
